About

Throughout history, news media has played a crucial role in the democratic process. So much so that in the early 1800s the press was often referred to as the Fourth Estate of government. Over the past two centuries the composition of news media has evolved dramatically, but the value it brings to democracy and community remains intact.

It’s no secret that the landscape of the newspaper world is going through some pretty major upheavals. In the span of the past three decades or so, technology has changed the way we consume media. Now, it’s up to the industry to adapt.

Designers will play a crucial part in news media’s next transformation. Today’s readers crave content that is easy to navigate and drenched in multimedia. News design is no longer about presenting information … it’s about creating an experience for the reader.

There is a call to arms in the newspaper design community for anyone listening. The next few years will decide what direction news media will take. That’s why, now more than ever before, it’s essential for designers to arm themselves with the skills needed to embrace the next era in news.

I put this site together to try and round up resources that I found helpful, and to share things that have inspired me. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or would just like to say hello.

Happy designing!
